One mother took her children on an 11-hour flight to Paris for her 40th birthday and said it was cheaper than taking them to a theme park in England.

Stephanie Curran, 40, left for France with her two sons Brody, 11, and Romeo, 7, because she didn't have enough money to escape for a week. She spent £55 each on her return ticket and the day she spent sightseeing, eating pastries and shopping. Her single mum estimates she has saved £100 compared to her day trip to the theme park.

Stephanie, a social enterprise director from Torquay, Devon, said: 'I wanted to do something for my birthday but didn't have enough time for a full holiday, so I started looking for ideas. Once I started, I realized I could make this happen.” It wasn't as cheap as it could have been to go to Paris and come back in a day, but it was definitely cheaper than taking the kids to a water park or some attractions in the UK, so we thought so. . It's pretty good for the price. ”

In April 2023, Stephanie left Bristol at 7:15am, arrived in Paris at 9:30am, and took a taxi straight to the Eiffel Tower for breakfast, which cost her 73 euros. . The family traveled around the city using the Tourist Bastout bus, which cost a total of 83 euros. “The bus kept my legs tired and I was able to see a lot of the main sights. It was great because I could hop on and off anywhere,” she said.

My eldest son's only purpose for the trip was to eat croissants, but he wanted to eat the most expensive croissant in Paris, so we were able to stop along the way and do that.” Thanks to Toute Bus So, in addition to seeing the Champs-Elysées, Stephanie was also able to visit her favorite Le Creuset store.

They enjoyed toast with avocado and sun-dried tomatoes before heading back to the Eiffel Tower. Stephanie and her sons took a €57 taxi ride back to the airport for their 8:10pm flight, arriving in the UK at 8:25pm. Stephanie says that even with the additional shopping and transportation costs, the trip was a cost-effective alternative to spending the day at home.

She said: “Even the local water park costs £95 a day including parking. Legoland costs £500 for a night.” Stephanie felt lucky that everything went according to plan that day and there were no delays. She said: “I had to warn the kids multiple times that this could be a complete disaster because if they were a few hours late, they would have wasted half their day.

Although we couldn't go to any of the attractions due to queues, it was a great way to try traveling with kids. It felt so good to be able to take my kids to another country in one day. It was a proud moment for me as a single parent. . ”
