When is Paris most crowded?

The busiest time to visit Paris is from spring to summer. garden Cherry blossoms are a big attraction, and Easter festivities are in full swing (head to the Gothic Saint-Chapelle to hear a medley of Mozart, Bach and Handel against the backdrop of the chapel's 600 square metres of stained glass windows). Then this balmy month ends with the long, languid days of summer, when outdoor dining and late-night ice cream crawls are a must. But they're no secret, and so the city fills with tourists trying to make the most of the cherry blossoms in full bloom. Then summer arrives at a rapid pace, bringing with it a host of outdoor events and festivals, from the French Open in June to the famous “Nuit des Musées”, an annual one-night event where you can explore the truly diverse exhibitions of Paris' museums until late into the night. The crowds follow, and so does summer.

If you're traveling during this time, be sure to plan a rough itinerary before you travel, as many of the major attractions require advance reservations.

When is the best weather in Paris?

Despite its buzz, Paris' climate is fairly mild. Summers are rarely scorching hot, and winters never drop below freezing. That said, April to August sees the city's highest temperatures (average mid-20s Celsius), although in recent years the late summer months have seen temperatures reach up to 40 Celsius. However, you can rest assured that the capital remains largely predictably mild during these five months.

When is Bastille Day?

Bastille Day marks the day in the 1700s when revolutionaries attempted to storm and seize the medieval armory, fortress, and political prison known as the Bastille. As a result, the city of Paris celebrates it as an official holiday every year on July 14th, with military parades, dancing, and fireworks around the Eiffel Tower taking to the streets. Naturally, travel and hotel prices are higher during this time, but the festive atmosphere that visitors to Paris enjoy at this time is unmatched.

When is Paris Fashion Week?

Paris is full of style, and so are the people who live there. Parisians are known around the world for their chic approach to fashion and for being the epitome of “French girl style.” But the capital is never more trendy than during Paris Fashion Week, with two editions for womenswear (spring/summer in September and autumn/winter in March) and two for menswear (autumn/winter in January and spring/summer in June). Be prepared for the fashion stakes to rise and prices to go up during this period, and double-check that the landmarks and foodie spots you've planned to visit aren't closed for the incredibly cool parties celebrating the occasion.
